THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF BABY MAKING FORUM SITES

After realizing what kind of crap I had been dealt with having PCOS and all I decided to join a bunch of FB PCOS sites. They were ok I mean most of them were just all about posting positive photos and the oh so famous kitten hanging poster that says “hang in there.” To be honest that irritated me I very much an information overload type person so when I’m interested in something I want to read as much as I can about it.

I was talking to a DF (dear friend) about her pregnancy and she suggested a site called baby centre and I found a Canadian site.. I quickly joined and started reading up on posts and learned the lingo. It’s pretty funny that if you don’t know an abbreviation all you have to do is google it and voila your answer ! for example POAS you will never guess what it means … I giggled  when I found out ( Pee On A Stick).. Wow Jersey Shore has really influenced the way we talk or maybe it’s just our generation with the texting and short forms of EVERYTHING! I thought DH meant Dumb Husband for a while and when I found out what BFP and BFN meant I truly felt like one of them!
I post lots of good questions or just rant about my crappy day and I love to read all of the posts that other women put. I learn a lot about IVF and different types of PG tests which ones are the best (visit www.peeonastick.com  to find out). I love to read about other women’s success stories and my secret guilty pleasure is imagining the day I will get to put on of those “GUESS what” or “Finally a BFP!” post on the forum. Consider this my shout out to all you fabulous ladies keep DTD and BD’ing till ur stuff falls off!!!

METPHORMIN RANT

My husband and I had been married for over a year and we decided to start looking into babies and having one. It wasn’t a confirmed contract that we were going to try religiously but we figured we’re married now if we have one great! After I found out about PCOS I kinda got obsessive about babies :S I realized I needed to loose about 50lbs and stop eating high glucose foods I needed to take my metphormin and trust that it worked.

When I read about Metphormin I got very concerned as people bashed this drug to no end! They talked about how bad the upset stomach was and how crappy it made people feel. Guess what! Metphormin will work for everyone with minimal side effects IF THEY EAT A PROPER DIET!!!!! Low carbs next to no sweets and exercise!!!

I find that with PCOS I get very very sluggish and lazy if I do not get off my keester and do something. This disease also has a lot of depression symptoms it has to do with the hormones and blood sugar stuff it’s all very technical and your eyes will glaze over if I put the details, but trust me if you have PCOS and you are reading my blog get off your laptop (finish reading my blog first and then follow my blog and then GO OUTSIDE!! And if it’s crappy out then do something inside! Just move ur body because you will just feel worse about yourself! Nothing irritated me more than reading FB PCOS pages or fertility forums or even YouTube videos bashing the drug... If you really want a child is a bit of an upset stomach not worth it? Is it not true that when you DO get prego don’t you need to adjust your diet to healthier anyway? Then tell me, why not start now?

Of course there’s gonna be some ladies out there that just cannot stand the drug it makes them so sick and they eat healthy etc etc and I’m not saying it will work for everyone but I know of some really lazy bad eating women out there who have not been properly informed by their doctor or gyno or books or whatever and then go and bash the drug. Also if you want to have a baby Metphormin is what you want. If you don’t want to be one of the next teen moms but don’t want to be a raging hormonal biotch get your gyno to put you on birth control even if you aren’t doing it yet! It will regulate your hormones and do the same thing Met does and prevent pregnancy!

MY VERY OWN “E TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY”

All my life I’ve had what I like to call my “gremlin stage”. I have fond memories of family trips and being in Kmart for hours with my mother and becoming extremely irrational and uncontrollable (basically a mini bitch) if I didn’t eat anything for 3 hours or more. My mom always knew if I was hungry cause I would act like this… The problem is I never got checked out for it, the “rents” just thought it was the Scottish in me clashing with the extremely violent and warlike Carib people (don’t know what that is? Open another tab and Google Caribs/ Amerindians and the Caribbean) they just figured I really needed food to fuel my “oh so fab personality”!

Well, that was all fine and dandy for my pre-pubescent stage but the minute I hit 13 the emotional crazy bitch with hormones arose! Insert the “dun dun dunnnnn!!!” sound anywhere here… On top of my weird “I need food to not be a bitch” I was also super crazy. Trust me my ex boyfriends and my current husband can confirm this, I was cray cray! I would just be in a fab great enthusiastic mood and then bam! Whamo! I was pissy! We’re talking gremlin and for those who are still younger than me and never seen that movie from the late 80’s I was “Exorcism of Emily Rose” crazy.

I have no idea how my present hubby stuck with me I was such a crazy moody nasty possessed with the devil chick to him and he stuck it out with me all the way for about 6 years!

I always knew there was something wrong with me and so did my mom. So when I was shipped up to Canada from the Caribbean for school and all I wanted to do was sleep for hours and gained a s#!t ton of weight my mother was convinced I had diabetes.

So blood tests had to be done and this is around the time that I found out that my veins do not like to be poked by outside objects and bury themselves deep in my arm :S ouch!

Naturally the blood tests come back perfectly normal I do not have diabetes and everything is fine. “Oh well I guess she’s just lazy” I’m sure this is what my old creepy doctor and my parents were thinking. So I went on being crazy and spiraling out of emotional control for oh probably another 3 years before I finally decided to take control of it and see another doctor.

By this time I’d moved 5 hrs away from my old doctor and went in with a little more maturity and knowledge. I told him my libido was next to nothing, and I think I may be hypoglycemic and went on to explain my “gremlin stage”.  He was a pretty young new doctor and thank goodness for that because he started listing off possible issues and tests he was going to have done including ultra sounds and. Ick, blood work. He explained to me that the hormones could be all off whack from a simple faulty fallopian tube or something else in my brain.

Fast forward to the test results after getting 15 viles of blood (I’m not even kidding), my young doctor tells me “oh you have multiple amounts of cysts in your uterus. This could be what is causing your blood sugar levels to drop and affect your personality when you haven’t eaten.”

So there you have it I didn’t get the name of the issue he did not go into detail about how difficult it would be to get prego he just said I had cysts and he would wait for my blood tests to see if I needed Metphormin and he would refer me to a gyno.

So the hypochondriac in me decided to Google Metphormin http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001408/ .  Naturally you can imagine any obsessive person would start buying books and driving herself nuts waiting for the blood work. My blood work FINALLY came back and my young new doctor told me all my levels were normal so he would not give me metphormin and I could only get it through a gyno and she was in the city 2 hrs away from me and I was told she was booked solid for months!

I’m not gonna bore you with the drama I went through getting to see that gyno let’s just say I waited for 8 months when I could’ve seen her a month after that doctor appointment! Anyway I started my Metphormin journey in October of 2011 and started seeing regular periods and being normal and level headed in December 2011 yay!
